Hello, I’m Patricia Ricciuti and I want you to love your hair. I’ve had the pleasure of working behind the chair for 40 years. I keep my fire burning by attending several industry events and workshops every year. By feeding my creativity and honing my craft I am able to do the thing I love every working day. My passion is Haircutting and Event styling; I love all textures, density and curl patterns. After working in my studio salon for 24 years I joined the DeCola Salon team summer of 2018 and never looked back.
You hear it from your hairdresser all the time. For shine, strength and length don’t over wash your hair. Second and third-day hair can be refreshed quickly and easily saving you a lot of time blowing it out. The bonus is, it is actually better for your hair and scalp, also it will help to keep the vibrancy of that beautiful hair color services you invested in.
Know that there is no set schedule for washing your hair. Some of us can go a week, while others have a hard time skipping a day because of excess oil. If you are a daily shampoo person and you want long strong healthy hair, you may want to try skipping some of that washing. However, if you can’t skip daily washing, please be sure to use the very best shampoo and conditioner you can, in order to restore the hair fiber and scalp. Hair is like fabric. It is made up of dead tissue, so you need to care for it like you would your most delicate fabrics. Imagine washing and drying your favorite silk, rayon or cotton blouse day after day after day eventually it’s going to wear out and dry out. Don’t do this to your beautiful hair! At DeCola Salon, we carry several excellent lines of hair-care. Two notable favorites are R&Co and Lakme Teknia.
For long hair clients, wash once or twice a week. When your hair is wet, it is at its most fragile state. That is when a good amount of breakage occurs just by combing, brushing, or even the dreaded wet high messy bun. Take your time and give yourself a good blow out. This will ensure your hair does not go through excessive breakage. Use products to protect hair from hot tools like a blow dryer, curling or flat iron. By taking the time to style your hair, it will last several days longer and can easily be refreshed. Many people don’t think about blow-drying their dry second-day hair. That warm air (no need to use hot) and a brush will do the trick to bring second-day hair back to life. If needed, you can use a misting water bottle for a bit of dampness to reactive any styling product already in the hair and add a bit more control. Add dry shampoo before restyling. Death Valley dry shampoo by R&CO is a great choice. For third and fourth day hair, embrace some curls, or even a messy or sleek bun/ponytail!
Believe it or not, short hair needs more attention than long hair. It always tends to look like a mess in the morning sticking up on one side and laying flat on the other and that’s speaking from experience! Here are some go-to tips:
Wet your hands or use a misting water bottle and get into the root area and massage that hair up where it has flattened out overnight.
Use your brush and blow dryer to style your hairstyle. That little bit of water and heat will boost any styling product you already have in. You can re-blow out your hair for days without re-wetting the whole head. That warm air can reshape your dry hair just like an iron and smooth out wrinkles.
If needed, you can add more styling products. For my fine short hair, R&CO Rodeo Star mousse is great. The light volume and scent are super pleasing. On the second day, add texture and shine spray. On the third day, use a bit of dry shampoo.
Top Five Takeaways:
Use the very best shampoos and conditioners. This is your hair for crying out loud!
Skip washing it every day. It was just clever marketing that made us think we needed to wash our hair every day. For strong, shiny hair, give it a break.
Re-blow that blowout. A good blow out with styling products for hold has memory. So just a few minutes of a little extra love and you are ready to go.
Dry shampoo. There are so many to choose from. We all find our love. For oily and flat hair is R&CO Death Valley. For short hair, use Badlands, which is a paste styling dry shampoo that adds volume and texture, while absorbing oils.
Talk to your stylist about all your hair needs. When getting your hair done, ask questions about how you can reproduce it at home. We want you to love your hair!
